If you are planning to add a rain-fed watering system, we recommend choosing a metal roof instead of asphalt, since metal roofs usually provide cleaner runoff and are better for collecting rainwater.
If you choose to use rainwater collection, we recommend adding gutters to improve water capture and increase collection efficiency.
No matter which roof you choose, we strongly suggest filling the barrel with a hose for the cleanest and most consistent water. For best results, use a drinking-water-safe (NSF-certified) hose so chemicals do not leach into the water.
